The shield bubble of the Enterprise-D lights up as the ship takes a
hit. This weapon
had been tuned to pass through a sensor window, largely bypassing the
shields.
Areas where shield panels overlap can be vulnerable, as demonstrated
here when a Maquis vessel penetrated the shields of the USS Enterprise-D.
