Voyager pilot episode. Searching for a Maquis vessel, Captain Kathryn Janeway of the USS Voyager enlists the help of former Maquis member and ex Starfleet officer Tom Paris. But after entering the plasma storms of the Badlands, Voyager is swept to the other side of the galaxy by a space station owned by the mysterious 'caretaker'. The Caretaker, guardian of the short lived Ocampan species, is nearing the end of his life and needs to find a compatible life form to produce an offspring who can continue his task. Janeway must join forces with the Maquis and become involved in a local power struggle as she seeks to convince the Caretaker to send her ship home.
