The Excelsior class USS Melbourne is badly damaged by a Borg beam weapon.
There where actually two Melbournes at the battle - this ship was pulled
out of her
decommissioning ceremony and sent to the battle alongside her Nebula
class replacement.
The Nebula class Melbourne was is shown here alongside an Ambassador
class vessel. The Melbourne met the same fate as her predecessor.
The USS Saratoga explodes as her Executive Officer watches from an escape
pod. The
Saratoga was one of the few ships which managed to launch such pods
before being destroyed.
The Enterprise-D passes through the battle site. The area has
been declared a graveyard by the Federation, and no ships are
allowed near except during a once-yearly memorial ceremony.
